# Submitting questions

Assurance Assistant offers two modes for submitting questions: single-question mode for immediate, on-the-spot answers, and questionnaire upload mode for processing multiple questions in bulk.

## Single-question mode

Use single-question mode to get an instant, cited answer to one compliance question at a time.

**To submit a single question using Assurance Assistant**

1. In the AWS Artifact console, choose **Assurance Assistant** in the navigation pane.

1. If this is your first time using Assurance Assistant, enter your question directly in the text field. Otherwise choose **Ask question**, then enter your question in the text field. Questions can be up to 2,048 characters in English.

1. Choose **Submit**. Your response appears with citations referencing the source documents used.

1. Choose the copy button to copy the response to your clipboard.

## Uploading a questionnaire (bulk)

Use questionnaire upload mode to submit an entire questionnaire at once. This mode is well-suited for CAIQ, SIG, and custom DDQ files.

**To upload a questionnaire using Assurance Assistant**

1. Navigate to **Assurance Assistant**.

1. If this is your first time using Assurance Assistant, the upload option is available directly. Otherwise, choose **Ask question** to access the submission interface.

1. Choose **Choose file** and select your questionnaire. Supported format: Excel spreadsheet (XLSX), maximum 5 MB, up to 1,000 questions.

1. (Optional) Add tags as key-value pairs to help organize questionnaires and manage access.

1. Choose **Submit**.

1. Assurance Assistant takes you to the **Configure responses** page. Select the tabs that you want to process, then choose **Configure**.

1. Processing begins immediately. Assurance Assistant takes you to the details page where you can monitor the status of your questionnaire.

1. To receive a notification when processing is complete, configure a notification under **Compliance Inquiries** by selecting the **Compliance inquiry updates** checkbox. For instructions, see [Configuring email notifications in AWS Artifact](managing-notifications.md).

1. You can also monitor the status of your questionnaire from the Assurance Assistant landing page.

**Note**  
You can submit questions in either mode at any time. For compliance questionnaires with many related questions, bulk upload is the recommended approach.
